On a multi-step form, the button that should trigger the answer (“Next”) is not the button that files the ticket (“Submit”). Set up the deflector to answer on the first and to watch the second. Once the deflector finds the Ticket-submitted element, only that button counts a ticket as filed anyway. Leaving the question step with Continue to submit ticket, or by pressing “Next” again, does not count on its own: a reader who gives up on a later step was still helped by the answer.

Answer on the step with the question

On the Form wiring tab, under Advanced, point Submit element at the button that leaves the description step. Set Intercept on to Click event, since a “Next” button rarely submits the form.

Name the button that files the ticket

In the Multi-step forms card on the same tab, set Ticket-submitted element to the last step’s button, and Watched event to match it:

When the reader uses that button after seeing an answer, the ticket counts as filed anyway.

Make sure the element exists at the start

The deflector looks for the Ticket-submitted element once, when it attaches. If the last step isn’t on the page yet, it is never found, and debug mode logs failure trigger not found. The deflector then counts leaving the question step as filed anyway, as on a single-page form, so readers who give up on a later step are counted as filed too.If one <form> wraps every step, name the form instead and set Watched event to Submit event. The form’s submit only fires when the ticket is filed.

Check it

Add data-debug-mode="true" to the script tag. Go through the whole form and file a ticket after reading an answer. On the Activity tab, the test should show under Filed anyway, not Tickets avoided.
Submit event only fires on a <form>. If Ticket-submitted element is a button, use Click event.
On a single-page form, leave Ticket-submitted element empty. The deflector already counts Continue to submit ticket and a second press of the same button.
