The Kelu extension puts Ask in a side panel beside any page. It answers questions with citations, finds documents without writing an answer, suggests documents for the page you are on, and saves a page or a highlighted passage into a knowledge base. It runs on Chrome 116 or later, Edge and Opera.
The extension is not in the Chrome Web Store yet, so there is no self-serve install today.

Set up

Install and pin it

Add Kelu from the Chrome Web Store once it is listed. In Edge, allow extensions from other stores when asked. In Opera, install the Install Chrome Extensions add-on first. Then pin Kelu to the toolbar.

Open the panel

Click the toolbar icon, or press Ctrl+Shift+K (⌘+Shift+K on a Mac). You can also type kl, a space and your question in the address bar.

Sign in

Click Sign in. A dashboard tab opens. Sign in the way your workspace normally does, then close the tab when it says You’re signed in.

Ask and Find

  • Ask answers with numbered citations, a copy button and thumbs up/down. It searches every knowledge base you may chat in, across all your workspaces, restricted documents included.
  • Find lists matching documents as you type and writes no answer. Ask instead turns the same words into a question.
  • The scope bar (Knowledge bases, Groups, Sources) narrows both. It is remembered on this computer.
  • Select text on a page, right-click and choose Ask Kelu about ”…”.
  • Recent conversations lists your conversations from every workspace. They are the same ones the dashboard’s Ask shows for each workspace.

Suggestions for the page you are on

Turn on Suggest answers for the page I’m on in settings. When the panel is empty, it shows up to four documents about the page in view, and an Ask about this page button. The browser asks for permission to read pages when you turn it on. Pages are read only while the panel is open, and nothing from them is stored.

Save a clip

  • A passage: highlight text, right-click, choose Save selection to Kelu. This needs no page access.
  • A whole page: right-click and choose Save this page to Kelu, or click the save button in the panel header. This asks for page access if you have not granted it.
Edit the title and text, pick where to save it, and click Save to knowledge base. The clip is searchable as soon as the panel says Saved to …. Clips go to a Web clips source, created automatically, unless you pick another file upload source. Your choice is remembered. Saving the same passage again updates it instead of adding a copy.
Saving needs the Edit Sources permission on that knowledge base, not just Chat. Without it, the save dialog offers nowhere to save. See Roles & Permissions.

The browser decides which side the panel opens on and how wide it is. Change the shortcut at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

Troubleshooting

  • “Chrome does not allow extensions to read this page”: browser pages, the Web Store, other extensions and the PDF viewer cannot be read. Save a selection instead.
  • The suggestions switch turns itself off: the browser declined the permission. Turn the switch on again and accept, or grant it on the extension’s page in chrome://extensions.
  • “Nothing you can chat in yet.”: ask an owner or admin for Chat on a knowledge base.
  • Signed out after restarting the browser: expected. The session is kept in memory only. Click Sign in again.
